Organisers of the NRW Media Forum (20 and 21 May) and ANGA COM (20 to 22 May) gave an entirely positive résumé of their joint conference programme in Cologne, which came to an end yesterday. This was the first year that both events had been staged on a co-operative basis, offering co-ordinated conference content. more

For a long time now, moving-image content has no longer been confined to classic television. Via internet platforms like YouTube, new stars, such as the German comedy trio Y-Titty or the Swedish gaming expert PewDiePie, are meanwhile reaching an audience of millions. Under the caption "Game Changer Online Entertainment?", market players discussed the growing significance of video online entertainment during the second part of the Entertainment Summit staged at the NRW Media Forum 2014. Entertainment Summit: „Beyond Global Brands. What remains, what disappears and what´s new in entertainment?"

Shows, talks, quizzes, casting, reality, comedies – in the case of many current and often globally active show formats, their best years are way behind them. Is the end of "Wetten Dass…?" a turning point in handling the great programme brands in the show sector? Where do the big programme brands stand and where can innovative next-generation entertainment concepts come from? These and other questions affecting the show sector were discussed during the NRW Media Forum 2014 at an Entertainment Summit under the title, "Beyond Global Brands. What remains, what disappears and what´s new in entertainment?" Revenue potential in pay-TV, on-demand and TV everywhere

What potential and opportunities do media enterprises see in pay-TV, VoD and mobile TV offerings? How are these companies positioning themselves to be armed against increasing competition? Can new revenue potential be tapped in the long run? On Wednesday, Professor Dr. Klaus Goldhammer, Managing Director of Goldmedia GmbH Strategy Consulting, discussed these issues with representatives of well-known media and infrastructure companies during the ANGA COM panel discussion on "Pay-TV, On-demand and TV Everywhere – new or shifting revenue potential?" There was a consensus that the market entry announced by the VoD portal Netflix for the end of this year was no cause for concern. The VoD portals Maxdome (ProSiebenSat1) and Snap (Sky) consider themselves well prepared to meet the forthcoming competition. more

Representatives of broadcasters and producers addressed the future significance of and the perspectives for the video-on-demand market in Germany during the panel discussion "Next Level TV – VoD on the verge of a mass market?" on 21 May 2014 at the conference organised by the NRW Media Forum and ANGA COM in Cologne. Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft opens NRW Media Forum 2014 and ANGA COM

On 20 May 2014, NRW Prime Minister Hannelore Kraft opened the NRW Media Forum and the ANGA COM in Cologne. In her opening address, the Prime Minister said: "Over the next few days, North Rhine-Westphalia will become the centre of media policy discussions, thanks to the Media Forum, the ANGA COM - and the Interactive Cologne, which immediately follows. Even in this 26th year of the Media Forum, we are living in exciting times. One could even say that your industry is still in the throes of its pioneering days. That new horizons are constantly opening up. And it is essentially the internet that is generating this momentum. But we also have to greatly intensify our efforts to make the internet safer in future. Digital may not become another word for defenceless." more

Next Level Transformation - NRW Media Forum and ANGA COM focal point of a powerful media week in North Rhine-Westphalia

From 19 to 25 May, NRW will be the central meeting point for the media and digital industry – for classic and new television, for infrastructure providers and telecommunications, internet and start-ups, entertainment and the networking and online world. Apart from the NRW Media Forum and ANGA COM, numerous other media events will be taking place, including Interactive Cologne (19 – 25 May in Cologne), the German Web Video Award (24 May in Düsseldorf) and the TV- Wirkungstag (TV Impact Day) (22 May in Düsseldorf).more
